My Alcatraz book
I created a book using these pictures for my final project in advance black and white class. These are the photos I took on the alcatraz workshop I went on back in October. It was such a fun trip! When we got there, we met up in the room called the electrical shop. We had lunch there and then we were allowed to go photograph. First we went to the prison building. They let us go behind locked doors, in to this room that leads to the roof. It was so cool standing on top of the building. There is a thin wire around the top that has electrical current flowing through to keep pigeons off but it was turned off at the time I was there because the Blue Angels flew by. Then I walked into the rifle cage, which is where the guards would walk along the prison behind with guns a fence and look at the prisoners.
Afterwards we went to the Electrical building which was a great run down, deteroating building that had a lot of places to take pictures. After that we went to the Laundry room and we took our group photo there. Then we went out the back of the laundry room, walked around the edge of the island, and watched the sun set behind the Golden Gate Bridge.
After dinner, we were allowed to go out and photograph more. I went back the electrical room, took photos outside of the prison, and when the fog rolled in, the pictures I got came out looking so cool! We also went into the kitchen, the hospital, and the mess hall. When I was in the hospital, someone shined a light into a room, and in the room behind that one were steel surgical tables. It looked so eeire how they reflected the light.
At about 1am, I went to Cell Block D, and slept in my cell room, number 34. The next morning we watched the sun rise, went into cell block A, where confindment was, and below the cell is the mote of the old citidel that used to be there before alcatraz became a prison. After that, the workshop was over and we returned to reality. It was a great experience and a fun workshop that I would definately go on again. If you look at my post of when I was going to Alcatraz, if there is a place to walk on the map, I was there. We walked EVERYWHERE! Anyhoo, here are some of my best pictures, enjoy!
At the Electrical Room

Near the entrance of the gate that leads to the electrical room. I actually took this picture on top of the prison building using my zoom lense to get the close up.

Another picture I took ontop of the prison of a watch tower.

This tunnel is across from the electrical building. The tunnel leads to another room that was very scary at night because it was pitch black.

This is the ruins of an officer building taken once the fog rolled in.

The tunnel lead to this room where I found these switch boxes.

Stairs of where the prisoners first worked. They shut it down shortly after it opened because the guards were in the same area with the prisoners and an imate took a blunt object and bludgened the guard to death.

This is next to the tunnel, these pipes go from near the tunnel into the electrical building.

This is another picture I took on top of the prison building. These windows cover the stairs that lead to the roof. I really liked how the iron was spliting apart.

Stephanie in solitary confindment. All the light the imate would have would come in at the bottome of the door. Around that area are carvings marking the days the prisoner had been there.

The Laundry Room. We took the group photo between the cloumns. The lighting was wonderful at that time.

Another picture I took on top of the prison building. The room were we would all meet was right around the corner from there, to the left of the picture.

This building is right next to the lighthouse. If you see a picture of Alcatraz with the light tower, this is the building (thats in ruins) right next to it. I have a wonderful silouet of the lighttower and this building but I didn't get around to enlarging it.

I hope you enjoyed my stay in prison. I sure did. "I'm having the time of my life! Hey T-bone."
